SPHINX: Robust Web Services - Distinguishing Human or Machine with Interactive Media Audio

ΣΦΙΓΞ (Sphinx) was a female monster in Greek mythology devouring those who could not solve her riddle. In VoIP, a new service in the role of Sphinx provides protection against SPIT (Spam over Internet Telephony) by discriminating human callers from botnets. Instead of tricky riddles, the VoIP Sphinx uses audio Captchas that are controlled by a customizable anti-SPIT policy mechanism. The Sphinx’s design has been formally verified for the absence of side-effects in the VoIP services (robustness) and its DoS-resistance properties. R&D participants: Athens University of Economics & Business, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Democritus University of Thrace. Industrial partner: Virtual Trip Ltd. Funded by the Cooperation Programme of the Hellenic General Secretariat for Research & Technology SPHINX.
